Mediation and Conflict
Management Services

I’m Marissa Galloway-Bailey, one of the small but growing group of experienced Mediators in Johannesburg, South Africa.

As a family and divorce law mediator, I use my creative strategic thinking, family law experience, legal expertise and negotiation skills to help my clients come up with fair & practical solutions that address the needs of both parties and work for their whole family.

After working with families for many years, I understand how traumatic family conflict can be. I am sensitive to the highly personal and emotional experience of my clients and my aim is to help them navigate through a difficult experience with professional skill and practical experience. My years of legal and mediation experience gives me the skills to mediate all matters concerning family disputes including issues such as parenting plans, finances, division of property in separation or divorce, maintenance for children and/or spouses and any other family related matters.

You might want to know what mediation is, or what the mediation process involves, or possibly how much does Johannesburg mediation cost? It’s also worth noting the differences between mediation and going to court. You should also familiarise yourself with what issues aren’t suitable for mediation.

After being a litigator for 12 years and mediating for more than a decade, I firmly believe that mediation is the better dispute resolution method for families. Because mediation is so flexible and guided by the participation of the parties, they have more control over the how the process goes and can be creative in finding a solution that best fits their family.  A mediated agreement is one which both parties have negotiated and so it is far more likely for the parties to the terms they themselves agreed upon.

I am committed and passionate in providing conflict resolution solutions to my clients. My membership to South African Johannesburg mediation bodies such as SAAM mean that my skill and experience have been assessed to meet national accreditation requirements. So I am committed to ongoing professional development – meaning every year I do at least 15 hours of additional training on all issues related to mediation. Issues such as legal developments in family law, learning and improving skills such as the drafting of parenting plans and learning more about the dynamics of conflict & the skills of conflict resolution and negotiation.
